The Brigitte Bardot Foundation

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation operates emergency rescue stray dogs in the capital of Bhutan (Thimphu).

Removal of all stray dogs in the capital had been halted through the quick action of the Foundation which has fielded Dr Catherine Schuetze of Vets Beyond Borders to provide the government the solution is in place in Sikkim (neighbor) for several years and who is to manage the problems of overpopulation through extensive sterilization campaigns.

With this example of human management of canine populations, dedication and effectiveness of Lama Kunzang (Chairman of JAST, an association of animal protection Bhutanese) the worst has been avoided.

Lama Kunzang undertook to retrieve the puppies, older dogs and the lowest in this huge enclosure where 900 dogs had been packed and would soon become a hell.

To help, the Foundation has provided funds immediately for urgent construction of a kennel home and temporary care and the purchase of a vehicle to transport the dogs recovered, particularly the elderly, disabled, injured, and do a food drive in the neighborhood (restaurants, schools, local donors).

Judge for yourself from this international chain of heart for animals through a slideshow of photos showing all the volunteers, all their efforts, the care given to the capture of dogs, their home, building a shelter, feeders, making meals, etc. Is not it beautiful?

The Brigitte Bardot Foundation is participating in the training of local veterinarians to start a second phase of action: the sterilization of stray dogs.

Intervening in the emergency fund instead of a temporary home and a vehicle was needed to save stray dogs but not sufficient, and above all he was laying the foundations for establishing a sustainable solution: the management of populations through sterilization, a method proved successful and in neighboring countries where the Foundation Brigitte Bardot takes.

Thus the Brigitte Bardot Foundation has funded the travel of Dr. Ian Douglas of Vets Beyond Border whose mission was to train local veterinarians and veterinary assistance of the Government to proceed with initial operations. After training, each received a veterinary certificate for its new powers.

Today, thanks to these first aid (the Foundation was the first speaker at international level in Bhutan) and the first job training, sterilization operations are conducted through the collaboration of Humane Society International (HSI) Vets Beyond Border (VBB) and the Fondation Brigitte Bardot (FBB). Foundation Brigitte Bardot built shelter and clinic in Bhutan.

After assisting in emergencies, the Lama Kunzang and his association (JAST) to build a temporary shelter for the hundreds of dogs, the Foundation decided to fund the construction of a true refuge with a clinical. Construction is underway and it is not simple given the climatic conditions in that country and the care taken to respect the ecological environment.
